The 3 year course consists of the completion of 18 modules (six per year) which include teaching methods, artistic applications, speech and recitation, anthroposophy study and discussion, music, movement, and handwork. The modules occupy Friday afternoons and evenings, and Saturdays. Many adjunct instructors participate in the courses, including guest lecturers from all over the globe. The course arrangement and direction is set by the Institute Director, John Miles. Class size can range from ten to twenty five students, with summer conferences holding up to 36 participants. As the Institute has grown, students from all over the world have been attracted and the cultural mix is rich and nurturing.

Grades and Credits
The Micha-el Institute wishes to point out that as an Anthroposophical Institution we view the term Certification in the light of Anthroposophy and the Threefold Social Order as indicated by Rudolf Steiner. In his picture of the social evolution of Human Beings three stages of development are pointed out. (e.g. GA 194 February 20, 1920) The first (prehistory) was the time of the Living God. In the second (historical times to nth Century) symbolism became heightened, church and state were divided, writing evolved and it was important to know by what authority things were done. We live in the third time when Culture, Rights and Economy have to be identified and work together. The most important question now is "Can you perform the task? Can you do the job?" not "By what authority do you do it?"
Consequently our certification shows that the teacher has completed a course satisfactorily. The course enables them to lay the foundation for their work in the classroom and school. The dwelling they build on this foundation depends upon their life and work experience and the person they are.To this end we will not be offering credits or grades. We are happy to give confidential references to schools and prospective employers.
